Welcome to the Chicago Colorectal Symposium

The Symposium is the only Chicago area educational event specifically focused on colon and rectal surgery, and it has become one of the premier educational events of the year nationally.

Our aim is to present concise, state-of-the-art information on challenging colorectal themes. Attendees will become familiar with these topics through didactic and hands-on approaches. We encourage all general surgeons, colorectal surgeons, surgical residents, and allied professionals to participate in the program. Practicing professionals can earn Continuing Medical Education credits.

We returned to a full, in-person program in 2023 after a 3 year hiatus due to COVID. The 2023 Symposium was outstanding, and all agreed that the in-person experience was far superior to most virtual activities. Now in its twelfth year, the Symposium continues to grow and evolve in exciting ways. The program is updated annually to include current, cutting-edge topics within colorectal surgery. The faculty speakers feature many regional and national figures with extensive expertise.

The program is packed into a single Saturday with many presentations including:

  • Invited speakers from Chicago and all over the country
  • The Honorary Herand Abcarian lectureship
  • The ASCRS Presidential Lecture
  • Debates on controversial topics, and
  • A vigorous and entertaining Stump the Professor panel

The Research Poster Competition is open to fellows, residents, and students. At the end of the symposium cash awards will be presented.

An open Faculty Reception with snacks and drinks concludes the afternoon. This is a perfect opportunity to network with the speakers, colleagues, residents, students, and staff, and to learn about the colorectal practices and programs in Chicago. We invite all participants to join us for this relaxing way to end the day.

We hope you will join us for our carefully curated program and for all that Chicago has to offer.
